Situated in the south-east part of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam: the outlying District 9 is a system of mangroves and canals. It was divided from Thu Duc District and has a population of 126,220. There are 15 Primary Schools in District 9.
Many families in District 9 face very difficult situations and have not yet had earlier opportunities to even build safe and sound housing. Long Phuoc Primary School is a very old building (1960’s). It is an extremely dilapidated state. It has eight classrooms: the cement floors have become dirt floors; Styrofoam ceilings in all classrooms; broken, horrendous furniture with desks held up with bricks; no educational resources; dilapidated blackboards; flooded playing area; pitiable toilet areas; no playground equipment – and more than 500 children attend this school! Teachers are difficult to find to educate the poor children of this District: three broken down single-room living quarters are available for teachers to live. Families of children at this school are mainly farmers or fishermen.
You can help Anand Bhatt build a whole new learning environment for the kids in District 9. With your help, these kids will have a chance to enjoy or achieve a life that they and their parents have only dreamed of.
Anand's Loreto Fest performance will raise money towards the District 9 Cause, but we need your donations to get this endeavor on it's way!
